Aeryn visits Walt Disney World® Resort

“ It was so special... ”

- Wish mom, Emilie

“I want to see the castle and meet my favorite characters!”

Aeryn had a clear image in her head when her wish granters asked her what her one true wish looked like. This 4-year-old from Grand Forks with leukemia, wished to see her favorite Disney characters at Walt Disney World®. So with the help of Make-A-Wish® North Dakota, on November 28, 2015, Aeryn and her family were on their way to bring that wish to fruition.

Diagnosed at age three, her young life has been filled with twists and turns as she navigated chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. With all the ups and downs she’s experienced, maybe it’s fitting that her favorite rides at the Magic Kingdom were the rollercoasters!

Aeryn was referred to Make-A-Wish by a close family member. Once her eligibility was verified by her treating physician, volunteer wish granters sprang into action! When asked what the most important parts of her wish were she explained to her wish granters that she wanted to meet everyone from Mickey and Tinkerbell to Elsa and Ana from Frozen. Aeryn also wanted to see the famous Disney castle. She did all that and so much more! “Seeing Aeryn's face light up after every ride and getting to meet so many characters was amazing, she just jumped with excitement every time,” explains Aeryn’s mom.

Aeryn’s wish day began with a limo picking her up and delivering the family to the airport. At the airport, Aeryn and her family were greeted by the friendly Allegiant representatives and checked in for their flight. While in Florida, the family stayed at Give Kids the World Village®, explored the theme parks, met Disney characters complete with autographs and enjoyed all the fun activities and events Give Kids the World had to offer. The family made memories that will last a lifetime.

Dealing with the stress of a sick child can have strenuous effects on families, making experiences like a week-long trip to Disney World just that much more cherished. “It was so special to have this experience since part of her childhood was taken away during all of the time spent in the hospital. It was also a great reward in a sense for Aeryn, for beating cancer,” says Aeryn’s mom. This trip was good for the whole family after a really tough year and they simply had to care about having fun. They were able to relax and enjoy the trip from beginning to end with nothing but joy and excitement. And even more importantly, Aeryn got to focus on being the fun-loving kid that she is.

This wish experience will be a very impactful memory that will last a lifetime for Aeryn. I think it helped release any leftover tension and stress from the past year of treatment for us all. ”
