Grant, a 4-year-old boy from Minot with Batten disease, will have his wish revealed to him on Saturday. Through Make-A-Wish® North Dakota Grant wished to have a backyard makeover. Grant’s wish is coming true and he will have a new and improved backyard that he can enjoy with his family.
The reveal is taking place at 3:30pm on Saturday, May 21st. This will happen at the family’s home in Minot so that everyone will be able to see the beautiful new backyard.
Grant’s birthday was on May 18th so this reveal is also doubling as his birthday celebration! Many people in the community have come together to make Grant’s wish a reality. From electricians to builders, to landscapers and many more, the backyard has been transformed into a place Grant can enjoy with his family and friends.
The makeover includes a new enclosed gazebo with a wheelchair lift for easy access for Grant and a handicap accessible swing for him to enjoy. Grant is allergic to bees and mosquitoes and there has been no wheelchair accessible options so in the past, time in his backyard hasn’t been an option. After his wish comes true, Grant will have a place to spend time and enjoy the outdoors. His backyard will also have sensory lights all around which will provide a serene and safe environment for Grant to enjoy the great outdoors with his family from here on out.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Since its inception in 1985, Make-A-Wish North Dakota has granted over 750 wishes to children across the state.
