Gavin is a nine-year-old boy from Bismarck with a rare genetic disorder accompanied by uncontrolled seizures. He was referred to Make-A-Wish® North Dakota by his physician. When Gavin and his family met with Make-A-Wish volunteer wish granters, they discovered that his one true wish was to go to Walt Disney World® Resort!
Tomorrow, Gavin and his family will begin their magical wish journey. Flying to Orlando on Allegiant Air, staying at Give Kids The World Village and spending time at Disney Theme Parks will all come together in an unforgettable experience. Highlights of his trip will include having ice cream anytime he wants at Give Kids The World Village, meeting Buzz Lightyear and other Disney friends and maybe most importantly, spending time together as a family and not worrying about doctor visits, treatments, or tests.
Make-A-Wish can’t make amazing heartfelt wishes come true without the help of our volunteers. In order to serve the entire state, we rely on 190 volunteers all across North Dakota to serve as wish granters, event volunteers, airport greeters and in a variety of other capacities.
Wish granters meet with wish children and discover their one true wish. They work in teams of two or three and are generally the first in-person contact with our wish families. Event volunteers are vital in assisting with our events and informational booths. Volunteers work to secure silent and live auction items, assist with set-up and tear down of the event as well as being present at the event. Regardless of your volunteer role with Make-A-Wish, all volunteers go through training and have a variety of resources available to them. You can help make wishes come true!
Volunteer roles are available based on your interest and availability. Just call our Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator at 701.280.9474 or visit us online at northdakota.wish.org to learn more about getting involved with Make-A-Wish and how you can make a difference.
