When Logan’s wish came true it crossed off a few items on his bucket list. He got to go to Nashville, sing and play guitar on stage, and ride in a big airplane!
Logan, a 14 year old boy who lives in Bismarck, deals with the effects of muscular dystrophy on a day to day basis. While he isn’t able to run and play like other kids his age, he does share a common interest with many of his friends – music. Specifically, Logan is a big fan of country music and especially country artist Johnny Cash. “Ring of Fire” is his favorite song.
When he was referred for a wish, wish granters learned of his love of country music and Johnny Cash. Logan decided that his one true wish would be to go to Nashville, visit the Johnny Cash Museum and maybe even play his guitar on stage with a band.
In true Make-A-Wish fashion, his wish experience turned out to be all of this and so much more! In August 2015, Logan, his grandma, uncle, aunt and cousin all boarded a plane and headed to Nashville. Logan was excited to check off flying on a big plane for the first time from his bucket list.
Logan and his family had several adventures and surprises while on their trip. They stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Resort which had beautiful scenery full of gardens and waterfalls. The family even got to ride on the Delta Riverboat tour through the hotel.
Next on the agenda was what Logan had been looking forward to the most: the Johnny Cash Museum. Not only did Logan get to visit the museum, he also got to meet and spend time with Cash’s son, John Carter Cash at Cash Cabin Studio. Together, John Carter and Logan played the guitar, recorded a CD and took a tour around the grounds of the studio in a gator. John Carter Cash even surprised Logan by giving him a case for his guitar, a shadow box, and other memorabilia. “This experience was more than Logan could have even imagined,” said his grandma, Jackie.
Before the trip was over, Logan and his family got to go check out the Grand Ole Opry. When they arrived they got to tour backstage and even got to hang out in the dressing room used by Johnny Cash himself. After going behind the scenes of the Grand Old Opry, Logan was surprised by a Johnny Cash impersonator who flew in from Georgia just to perform for him. After the impersonator performed, Logan’s family was invited on stage and got to perform “You Are My Sunshine”. They can now say they’ve sung on the Grand Ole Opry stage and in doing so joined a pretty elite club and they think it’s pretty cool!
Still to this day Logan looks through his scrapbook with memories from the trip. The trip was more than Logan could have imagined.
