Up until last January, Connor and his family had never taken a family trip that didn’t involve a doctor’s office. This all changed when Connor’s wish was granted by Make-A-Wish® North Dakota.
Connor was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal disorder at the young age of three. What this meant for Connor and his family is that their idea of a ‘family outing’ would become countless visits to the doctor. So when given the opportunity, Connor – who is now eleven years old – was thrilled about the possibility of taking a family trip to relax and enjoy the ride.
When wish granters first met with Connor he was quick to share his love of things like basketball, playing video games and hanging out with his brother. He was also quick to share his one true wish to go on a Disney Cruise. He envisioned meeting Goofy and all the other beloved characters while being at sea and spending time with his family.
On an early January morning, a limousine arrived to take Connor and his family to the snowy Minot airport in style. From there, the family arrived in Orlando and were lead to the Disney Dream Ship. The following days aboard the cruise ship were spent enjoying various excursions, like, the AquaDuck, Castaway Cay, and snorkeling. For Connor, even the simple things – like the endless amounts of ice cream – kept a smile on his face the whole, entire trip!
“Connor has never really been able to participate in a lot of activity prior to his transplant surgery,” Connor’s mom Erin explains. “But, he feels so great now, he did everything and then some. He finally got to be a kid who did what kids do, live life to its fullest.”
For Connor, a wish experience isn’t just about seeing a new part of the world or going on an extravagant trip. It’s about curating memories and building bonds with those who love and support him. Sure, Connor got to ride in a limo and got to take a trip of a lifetime, but he got to experience it with those who are there for him day-in and day-out.
