Haley, a 13-year-old Dickinson girl, is having her one true wish granted through Make-A-Wish® North Dakota. Haley was diagnosed with leukemia in May 2016. This diagnosis came on top of being born with complex congenital heart disease, lung disease, malrotation of the gut and an immune disorder. To say she’s been through a lot in her young life is an understatement.
Haley and her family welcomed volunteer wish granters, Bonnie and Lindsay, to meet with Haley to discover her one true wish. Haley loves Disney Princesses and shared that her wish would be to eat dinner with the princesses. When she described how she pictured her wish, she saw chandeliers, fancy chairs, about 12 forks, knives and spoons and wearing a pretty pink dress and tiara like the princesses do.
Haley and her family attended the Dickinson Noon Lions benefit for Make-A-Wish and the evening turned into much more than Haley ever expected. During the event, Haley was called up on stage to meet a very special guest. When she walked on stage, she was greeted by Princess Belle and told that her wish was coming true!
Haley was overcome with emotion, but the excitement didn’t stop there. Haley was also presented with a beautiful pink dress and tiara to wear to her dinner at Cinderella’s Castle. Haley was ecstatic! Her excitement was contagious and everyone in the room shared in a bit of her excitement and the sheer joy that a wish come true brings to a wish child.
Thanks to Adopt-A-Wish® Partners Dickinson Noon Lions and American Foundation for Wildlife, Haley’s wish is coming true. Haley will travel to the airport in style via a limousine, thanks to Dan Porter Motors and The Fisher Group, she’ll fly aboard United Airlines to Orlando where she’ll stay at Give Kids The World Village®. While in Orlando, Haley will have the opportunity to visit the Walt Disney World® Resort theme parks and other local attractions. She will be pampered during her princess makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique before her magical dinner with the princesses in Cinderella’s Castle.
When a child like Haley is diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition, the family’s life changes. Haley’s wish will be a chance for her and her family to have fun, laugh, make life-long memories and not worry about anything.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Since its inception in 1985, Make-A-Wish North Dakota has granted over 800 wishes to children across the state.
