Internship Opportunities

Internships are available for fall, spring and summer unless indicated differently in the description. All internships are unpaid.

Program Services

Purpose of Internship:  The intern will support the Program Services department of Make-A-Wish North Dakota in wish activities and projects and provide general assistance and office support.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  •  Process incoming wish referral paperwork
  •  Organize/label wish files as well as manage file close out process
  •  Ensure proper paperwork is sent to physicians and wish families
  •  Review, critique, create and mail wish itineraries
  •  Coordinate with outside vendors for wishes; Give Kids the World, limo, hotel, etc.
  •  Prepare initial wish meeting “ice-breaker” gift packages 
  •  Complete wish child information form for volunteers on wish
  •  Put together and coordinate materials for volunteer manuals 
  •  Volunteer/referral source recognition
  •  Manage birthday card process to wish kids, volunteers and board members
  •  Communicate with staff of upcoming wishes and wish events 
  •  (OPTIONAL)Become a trained wish-granting volunteer (one year commitment required) 
Qualifying Skills:  
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills
  •  Ease and comfort dealing with individuals over the phone and in person
  •  Good organizational skills
  •  Detail oriented
  •  Ability to handle multiple tasks 
  •  Two years of college completed in business or a related field
  •  Experience with Microsoft Office preferred (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
Time Requirement:
  •  Minimum of 10 hours per week
  •  Maximum of 20 hours per week

Communication and Special Events

Purpose of Internship:  The communications and special events intern will assist the Director of Community Relations in spreading the Make-A-Wish mission, events and updates through all means of communication. The intern also supports major special events and external events as well as provide general assistance and office support.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Writing press releases, PSAs and media alerts
  • Providing content for newsletters, wish stories and social media
  • Layout and design work for the e-newsletter, event and promotional materials
  • Creating Snapfish photo books for donors and wish families
  • Assisting with marketing of events
  • Securing donations
  • Coordinating volunteers as well as assist with logistics of events
Qualifying Skills:  
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills
  •  Ease and comfort dealing with individuals over the phone and in person
  •  Good organizational skills
  •  Detail oriented
  •  Ability to handle multiple tasks 
  •  Two years of college completed in business administration, communication or a related field
  •  Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop preferred
Time Requirement:
  •  Minimum of 10 hours per week
  •  Maximum of 20 hours per week

Special Projects

Purpose of Internship:  The intern will assist the Chapter in advancing the Make-A-Wish mission by supporting the development team, helping with major special events, assisting the program team with wishes as well as providing general assistance and office support.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Implement project management techniques
  • Conduct research
  • Data entry
  • Grant writing
  • Assist with marketing of events
  • Support Board of Directors logistics
  • Complete a 5-10 minute presentation at end of internship recapping experience
Qualifying Skills:  
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills
  •  Ease and comfort dealing with individuals over the phone and in person
  •  Good organizational skills
  •  Detail oriented
  •  Ability to handle multiple tasks 
  •  Two years of college completed in business administration, communications or a related field
Time Requirement:
  •  Minimum of 10 hours per week
  •  Maximum of 20 hours per week
